Superintendent Application Form

Participation in the study requires that you understand and agree to the following requirements of participation. Please read the following statements and indicate by checking Yes or No whether you understand and agree to follow each requirement.

I understand and agree to follow the requirement for participation:

My district has at least one school with 6th grade math classes.
Sixth-grade teachers in each participating school will be randomly assigned to either the immediate use or delayed use group.
Teachers in the immediate use group will start using MathSpring in Fall 2020 as a supplemental math instruction tool and delayed use schools will have access starting in Summer 2022.
The research team can conduct data collection activities such as interviews, surveys, and classroom observations. I understand that the research team will receive appropriate Institutional Review Board permission before collecting data. Individual principals and teachers will be engaged in a consent process before these data collection activities occur.
Regardless of the teacher’s assignments, teacher participation in research activities include data collection in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years. Participating teachers will receive a stipend for study participation.
The research team (WestEd and UMass) will acquire student-level MCAS test data and demographic characteristic data (gender, race/ethnicity, free-and-reduced-price lunch status, IEP status, ELA status, student ID) from the 2019-20, 2020-20 and 2021-22 school years from the district following FERPA regulations. The research team will not share this data with any third parties or identify individuals in any reports.

Are any schools in your district currently using MathSpring regularly in 6th grade classrooms?

Does your district currently use any other technologies to support 6th grade math learning? If yes, please specify.

Use this checklist to determine eligible schools:

  • The school has at least one 6th grade math classroom
  • 6th grade students in the school are able to do online, in-class work
  • The school is not currently regularly using MathSpring in 5th or 6th grade
  • The school will agree to have teachers participate in the random assignment study design. If assigned to the delayed use group they will still receive free, compensated training in the Summer of 2022 and can use MathSpring beginning in the 2022-23 school year.

Please list all eligible schools in your district.
