Principal/School Curriculum Leader Application Form

PALS is a large-scale, randomized control trial (RCT) study of the MathSpring learning environment. It is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, which is part of the U.S. Department of Education. Sixth grade teachers across New England will participate in the study by using MathSpring in their classrooms and supporting researchers in their evaluation of the system's efficacy. The study will take place during the 2021-22 school year. Looking for more info about the study? Click here!

Participation in the study requires that you understand and agree to the following requirements. Please read the following statements and indicate whether you agree by checking Yes or No.

I understand and agree to the following participation requirements:

To be eligible to participate in the study, a school cannot be currently using MathSpring regularly in 5th or 6th grade classrooms.
Sixth-grade teachers in each participating school will be randomly assigned to either the immediate use or delayed use group.
Teachers in the immediate use group will start using MathSpring in Fall 2021 and teachers in the delayed use group will have access starting in Summer 2022.
Teachers assigned to the immediate use group will be expected to participate in professional development trainings. The school will provide necessary supports to enable teacher participation during the school year, such as welcoming the MathSpring coach into the building.
If assigned to the Immediate Use group, teachers will use MathSpring platform with students for at least 30 minutes every other week. The school will support them in whatever way necessary (such as providing access to computer lab, or laptop cart).
Regardless of the teacher’s group assignment, all 6th grade teachers who participate in the research will be expected to participate in data collection during the 2021-22 school year. They will receive a stipend.
I understand that the research team will receive appropriate Institutional Review Board permission before collecting data, and that individual principals, teachers, and students will be engaged in a consent process before these data collection activities occur.

Number of 6th grade regular education math teachers in your school:

Do 6th grade regular education math classrooms have internet enabled technology access (e.g., Chromebooks, tablets, computer lab)?

Do 6th grade math teachers teach mixed grade-level classes?

Does your school currently use any technologies (other than MathSpring) to support students’ math learning? If yes, please specify.

Use this checklist to determine eligible schools:

  • The teacher teaches at least one 6th grade math class in the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years
  • The teacher agrees to participate in out of school trainings.
  • The teacher agrees to participate in the random assignment study design

Please list all eligible schools in your district.
